Emma Crawford Coffin Races

This is a very unique event held in Manitou Springs every year. Emma Crawford was a young woman who came to the mineral springs to seek a cure for her tuberculosis, but she died in 1890. She was buried atop Red Mountain. Years later in a storm, her coffin was unearthed and slid down the mountain to be discovered by two boys. Manitou Springs has been honoring Emma Crawford for 24 years with a coffin race where over 70 teams race coffins down Manitou Avenue. Yep, you heard that right.
